Freeze Drying Flowers

Freeze Drying Flowers is a beautiful new trend for preserving flowers for many different reasons. Some dry them for art purposes, others freeze dry them to preserve a memory such as a wedding or funeral. Whatever the reason, we are enjoying the outcomes!

What is the process for freeze drying flowers?

  • Flowers are delicate, we always want to make sure you know there is no "right or wrong way" to freeze dry and for the most part, you'll require some trial and error to get the results you are hoping for. These are some generic examples of what would make a great starting point for freeze drying flowers.
    • Wait until your flowers are matured and bloomed- the flowers will stay however you dry them, so make sure you want to forever look at them the way you freeze dry them.
    • Do NOT start dying them before hand- you want them to have water in them. Allowing your fresh flowers to sit in a vase before drying is going to be most beneficial to the outcome.
    • Remove the leaves and trim your stems to the desired lengths, doing so afterwards could potentially damage them.
    • Run your freeze drying cycle, this can vary from flower to flower. You will likely need to run a test run prior to committing to a set time. This is especially important if you are preserving something that is a once in a lifetime situation, like a wedding bouquet! So, practice with similar before running the real product.
    • Once they are freeze dried, CAREFULLY remove them and store them in an airtight container or display them as desired.
  • What can you use freeze dried flowers for?
    • Preserve event flowers.
      • Weddings
      • Corsages
      • Funerals
      • Use for decorations
      • Romantic gestures (think rose petals)
      • Saging or smoking (Some flowers can be put into sage bundles and used as a medicinal practice
      • Teas and Tinctures
